Abstract

Introduction. The relevance of the study of the influence of hypercaring and undercaring parenting styles on the mental characteristics of children with cerebral palsy is due to the increase in cases of cerebral palsy, as well as the need to provide quality psychological support for these children. Under conditions when a child with cerebral palsy faces numerous physical and emotional difficulties, the parental style of upbringing becomes a decisive factor in their psychosocial adaptation. Hypercaring and undercaring can significantly affect a child’s self-esteem, level of independence, ability for emotional self-regulation, and social skills, which in turn determines his or her success in later life. Therefore, studying these styles is important for developing recommendations that will promote healthy psychological conditions for the development of children with cerebral palsy and support their families.

The aim of the study – to analyze the impact of hypercaring and undercaring parenting styles on the mental characteristics of children with cerebral palsy, including their self-esteem, emotional stability, and social adaptation.

The main part. Focused on raising children with cerebral palsy (CP), emphasizing the importance of an individual approach and multidisciplinary support. Medical, psychological, and pedagogical aspects are discussed, including the adaptation of learning materials and physical therapy. Special attention is given to socialization and emotional support, as well as the role of the family in creating a developmental environment for the child. Raising such children is a complex process that requires efforts from parents and specialists to ensure maximum autonomy and integration.

Conclusions. The parenting style of adolescents with CP significantly impacts their psychological and social development. Hypercaring may foster dependency, reducing levels of independence and complicating social adaptation, while undercare can lead to feelings of loneliness and insecurity. It is important to find a balance between support and autonomy for the harmonious development of children. It is necessary to develop corrective programs for parents that teach effective parenting approaches, reduce anxiety, and promote a healthy family climate. Involving parents in discussions will help better understand the needs of children and formulate individualized development strategies.
