Abstract

Introduction. Emotional and behavioral disorders represent a significant challenge to children’s mental health. According to the ICD-10, mixed disorders of conduct and emotions are characterized by a combination of various forms of unacceptable behavior and emotional states, such as aggression and depression. The causes of these disorders can be diverse, including genetic factors, stress, trauma, and upbringing. These disorders can have negative impacts on a child’s learning, social interactions, and overall well-being.

The aim of the study – to investigate the impact of emotional and behavioral disorders on the quality of life of children aged 14–18 years old, as well as to determine the prevalence of these disorders among patients with this issue.

The main part. This article examines a study of 15 patients with emotional/behavioral disorders aged 14–18 years old. 60.0 % had prior medical assistance, and 44.4 % sought help repeatedly. 66.6 % had a family history of mental illness. 86.6 % came from disadvantaged families in need of social support. Common complaints included suicidal behavior, anger, anxiety, sleep disturbances, headaches, mood swings, lying, truancy, running away, and cruel treatment of people/animals. Insomnia was detected in 73.3 % of patients. Anxiety was present in 100.0 % of patients. A high level of aggression was found in all patients, with 80.0% exhibiting emotional aggression and 73.3 % engaging in self-aggression. Suicidal behavior was detected in 93.3% of patients. Frustration and rigidity, indicating emotional and behavioral disorders, were present in 100.0 % and 53.3 % of patients, respectively.

Conclusions. Emotional and behavioral disorders in children can have serious consequences for their lives, families, and society. One of the main problems is developmental delay. These disorders lead to various issues affecting not only children’s social lives but also disrupting their emotional and cognitive spheres, increasing health risks, and may lead to loss of productivity and even premature death. These disorders can cause health, social adaptation, and learning difficulties, posing serious challenges for families and society. Understanding and effectively managing these issues are crucial for ensuring healthy development.
