Introduction. Nowadays, medicine is developing rapidly, and with this, patients’ demands for quality medical services are growing. Therefore, an important stage is the improvement and mastering of new protocols by nurses. Since a nurse is often the first person to contact a patient in a critical condition and before the arrival of medical assistance can effectively influence the disturbing, life-threatening links, thereby increasing the patient’s ability to survive or maintain mental status.
The aim of the study – to demonstrate the importance of knowing how to use the initial examination protocol (ABCDE).
The main part. Particular attention in the work of a nurse, regardless of the profile of the department, should be focused on three key points that may affect further tactics regarding the deterioration of the patient’s condition:
- Assessment of the possibility of a critical condition in the patient
- Prevention of the possibility of a critical condition in the patient
- Treatment of a critical condition, if one has already developed, i.e. the sequence of ABCDE protocol implementation, to ensure quality provision of the links of use and preservation of metal health.
The importance of a systematic approach to improving the quality of medical care bears its undeniable fruit by affecting critical points. The nurse of each department must understand and strictly follow the protocol for examining a critical patient and providing emergency/urgent medical care to a patient whose condition is deteriorating. Based on the experience of our foreign colleagues, after studying and analyzing a large number of works, we concluded that the implementation of the ABCDE protocol in nursing practice is an integral part of the quality of care and care.
Conclusions. The nurse is a highly qualified, clinically oriented partner of the physician in providing care to patients in critical condition. The knowledge and ability to use the initial examination protocol (ABCDE) is an integral part of the nurse’s work in any department, which is aimed at saving the patient’s life and preserving mental health.
