Abstract

Introduction. Nurses belong to a professional group with a high risk of developing burnout syndrome. Professional burnout is defined as a complex psychophysiological state characterized by emotional, cognitive, and physical exhaustion resulting from prolonged exposure to occupational stress and excessive emotional demands. The primary factors contributing to its development include the specifics of professional activity, working conditions and work organization, as well as the individual psychological characteristics of the employee. Manifestations of the syndrome affect both somatic and psycho-emotional domains, presenting as chronic fatigue, decreased job satisfaction, apathy toward the social environment, and emotional detachment from patients. The impact of occupational stress may be intensified by personal and family difficulties, complicating the processes of adaptation and the restoration of psycho-emotional balance.

The aim of the study – to analyze the factors contributing to professional burnout among nurses and to provide practical recommendations for its prevention and management as key determinants of health preservation and long-term work capacity.

The main part. It was found that professional burnout among nurses manifests at both personal and professional levels. Healthcare workers experience reduced motivation to perform professional duties, decreased quality of care, and increasing levels of interpersonal conflict within the team. Prolonged emotional exhaustion may lead to the development of psychosomatic disorders, depressive states, heightened anxiety, and increased frequency of temporary work incapacity. Preventing the development of burnout syndrome requires optimizing working conditions, ensuring a rational distribution of functional responsibilities, promoting a supportive psychological climate within the team, and implementing programs for psycho-emotional support of staff.

Conclusions. Professional burnout is a complex phenomenon that requires careful study at the present stage. Increasing demands placed on healthcare personnel and the extreme stress conditions of medical work underscore the need for continued research and understanding of this problem, as well as the development of effective strategies to prevent its occurrence.
