Summary. The dental status index promotes oral health surveillance to collect information, monitor changes, measure the effectiveness of health care delivery, and plan oral health services as part of an intersectoral prevention policy based on medico-social determinants of health.
The aim of the study – to determine the level of prevalence and intensity of caries in permanent teeth in 15-year-old adolescents.
Materials and methods. Examined 180 adolescents 15 years of age in educational institutions of Ivano-Frankivsk region. The condition of the hard tissues of the teeth was assessed using indicators of the prevalence, intensity, and the level of intensity of caries in permanent teeth. The structure of the DMFT indicator was analyzed by its constituent components. The need of children for caries treatment was calculated.
Results and Discussion. The results of the study showed a high level of incidence of caries in the permanent teeth of 15-year-old adolescents. The majority of schoolchildren have a high and very high level of intensity of caries in permanent teeth. The high specific gravity of the «D» component and the high rate of need for treatment indicated the need for preventive and therapeutic measures at the early stages of caries occurrence.
Conclusions. Clinical assessment of the condition of permanent teeth in 15-year-old children indicated a high prevalence of caries lesions of hard dental tissues against a background of high intensity. A high percentage of untreated carious cavities, the presence of removed permanent teeth due to complications of caries, a high need for dental treatment indicated negative trends in changing the dental status of schoolchildren and the need for preventive and therapeutic measures at the early stages of caries development.
