Abstract

Background. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a pressing problem due to its rapid spread worldwide and the significant financial burden in terminal disease. A substantial number of publications on this topic need to be systematized. Developing an ontology is the latest way to solve this problem. The aim of the study: to develop an ontological model of health care for patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease as part of the Systems Biomedicine ontology.

Material and methods. Analysis and systematization of NAFLD literature using the ontological approach. The original text of the ontology was created in Word, EndNote was used for citations. The search for articles was conducted in the Web of Science, PubMed, and Cochrane Library databases.

Results. The created ontological model has 334 vertices, and a total of 506 sources of scientific information were indexed. The data is presented in graph, tabular, and object versions.

Conclusions. We created the ontological model of Health Care for Patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, which is part of the Systems Biomedicine ontology, as a fundamentally new approach to help clinicians in their practice, improve overall NAFLD knowledge, and facilitate scientists in finding missing or unidentified connections between concepts.
