Interleukin 1β and TNF-α levels in the serum of patients with abdominal tuberculosis

Proinflammatory cytokines are produced in response to antigen and tissue damage and stimulate the development
of local inflammatory response, which is aimed at the elimination of pathogens. When local inflammation is ineffective,
these mediators are produced in large quantities in tissues and activate generalized inflammatory response. The aim
of the study was to determine the levels of IL‑1β, TNF‑α in patients with abdominal tuberculosis and to assess the
nature of existing correlations between cytokines. In AT patients levels of IL‑1β and TNF‑α are significantly higher
than the rates in healthy individuals, indicating the presence of inflammation. This fact may serve as a marker to
identify hidden AT activity.
