Abstract

SUMMARY. To investigate the prevalence and nature of upper limb and shoulder girdle injuries coexisting with chest trauma among traffic accident victims.

The aim – to investigate the clinical and epidemiological features of injuries of the upper extremities and shoulder in combination with chest trauma in road accident victims.

Material and Methods. An extensive review and analysis of data from traffic accident victims were conducted. The focus was on the injuries to the upper limbs, especially the upper extremity and shoulder girdle, in conjunction with chest trauma.

Results. The majority of the studied sample comprised working-age individuals, predominantly males, whose representation significantly exceeded that of females (72.58 %). The circumstances of injuries depend on gender and age factors. The largest percentage of injury causes among women and men is due to injuries to pedestrians (30.11 %) and cyclists (29.57 %).

Conclusions. Traffic accidents remain a significant health concern globally. Men, particularly as cyclists, drivers, and motorcyclists, are at a higher risk of serious injuries. The intricate interplay of injuries demands a deeper understanding of their clinical and epidemiological characteristics for effective prevention and treatment strategies.
