AWARENESS AND MAIN SOURCES OF PATIENTSʼ KNOWLEDGE CONCERNING PRIMARY PREVENTION OF CARDIOVASCULAR RISKS FACTORS

SUMMARY. The aim – to assess of the level of awareness, main sources of knowledge and trust of Uzhgorod residents and surrounding villages on the factors of primary prevention of cardiovascular risks.
Materials and Methods. An anonymous survey of 540 declared patients was conducted using a developed questionnaire.
Results. The amount of surveyed respondents who were overweight and obese was 36 %. Only 8.3 % of respondents ate enough fruits / vegetables daily. 7.3 % of respondents had a sufficient number of fish days per week in their diet. In 52.8 % of people dominated animal fats in diet and only 32.8 % of respondents had sufficient physical activity during a week. The most important opinion for the respondents we interviewed about the factors of primary prevention of cardiovascular risks was the opinion of the family doctor and relatives. Instead, the main source of knowledge among the respondents was Internet.
Conclusions. Most of the respondents did not eat enough vegetables and fruits, fish, and did not have enough physical activity, contrary to the existing evidence based recommendations. For the significant number of surveyed respondents Internet is the main sourse of knowledge. Thatʼs why it is important to develop an adequate web content for patients on healthy lifestyles and prevention of cardiovascular risk factors based on evidence-based recommendations.
