Abstract

Purpose: To implement and assess the effectiveness of the educational module “Health Risks Associated with the Use of Novel Tobacco and Nicotine Products” among medical students. Materials and Methods. A sociological method (survey of third-year medical students of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University), methods of a systemic approach, structural and logical, and medical and statistical analysis were used in this study. Results and Discussion. The 10-hour module introduced for third-year medical students improved future doctors’ awareness about the negative impact of tobacco use, particularly novel tobacco products. According to surveys conducted before and after the educational module, the average understanding of the negative consequences of using any tobacco and nicotine products increased by 8.5 percent. Conclusions. Implementing similar modules in other courses and their integration with clinical disciplines will increase future doctors’ awareness and understanding regarding the dangers and harm of tobacco use and novel tobacco products. This will ensure the training of medical professionals prepared to combat tobacco use among the population.
