Abstract

Purpose: analyzing the importance of the medical doctor’s profession in the modern Ukrainian society.

Materials and Methods. Indicators of the maternal and infant mortality in Ukraine derived from the WHO annual report (2017), together with socio-demographic indicators, results of forensic medical examinations performed in alleged medical malpractice cases and of? cial data of legislative and executive authorities in Ukraine. The data were analyzed statistically using the method of content analysis.

Results. The state-derived de? nition and importance of the profession of a doctor is substantiated, seven social and legal features of the professional medical activity are distinguished and characterized.

Conclusions. The primary task of juridical reforming of medicine in Ukraine should be provision of the decent working conditions to the medical professionals with maintenance and improvement of the high social status in the society.
