Abstract

Purpose – to identify the most significant indicators of dental health and identify behavioral risk factors in school age children using European indicators.

Materials and methods. Dental examination of 12 and 15 years old children and anonymous questioning of 15-year-olds were conducted. We registered DMF index of permanent teeth, of Greene-Vermillion oral hygiene index (OHІ-S) and bleeding of gums.

Results. The tested indicators are very informative and specific. The high prevalence and the medium intensity of dental caries in children of both age groups and their relationship with behavioral risk factors were revealed.

Conclusions. European indicators of oral health can be used to monitor the effectiveness of programs of primary prevention of dental caries among children.
