Purpose: to study the main characteristics of the “Otolaryngology” section in the training programs for doctors in internships in the specialty “General Practice – Family Medicine”; to propose approaches to improving the training programs of interns in otolaryngology. Materials and methods. An exemplary internship training program in the specialty “General Practice – Family Medicine”, approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and 7 similar programs of state-owned higher education institutions; regulatory documents and scientific literary sources. Methods: structural-logical analysis of documents, grouping, generalization, comparison, bibliosemantic. Results. It was established that the duration of the considered programs is 2 years, and the educational part of the course “Otolaryngology” of higher education institutions is from 18 to 36 hours, with the recommended 36 hours; the duration of the practical part of most programs is 108 hours. The structure of the course “Otolaryngology” by topics is rich in content and number (11 units) and multiplicity (10–20 times) of practical skills. A comparison of the duration and content of domestic programs with the best European ones showed that the duration of the latter is at least 3 years, and in most European countries – 5 years. Foreign studies indicate a direct relationship between the duration of training and the acquired competencies of a doctor. Approaches to improving internship training programs for general practitioners-family doctors in otolaryngology include increasing the total duration of training to at least 3 years, with a corresponding increase in the duration of the Otolaryngology course, and making wider use of postgraduate short-term training using simulators. Conclusions. Internship training in the specialty “General Practice-Family Medicine” requires an increase in the duration of programs according to the best European models, with a corresponding extension of the duration of the “Otolaryngology” course, as well as the use of short-term training cycles on otolaryngology within the framework of the continuous professional development of general practitioners-family doctors.
