Purpose: to establish the peculiarities of the health dynamics of medical students during their studies during COVID-19 and martial law.
Materials and Methods. Among the sixth-year medical students, 130 girls and 70 boys were randomly selected (entering in 2018). Based on an anonymous interview, we established a subjective assessment of their own health. According to the reports of the university’s medical center, the morbidity rate of students of different conditions for the first to sixth years of study was assessed. At the same time, students were asked questions about their lifestyle.
Results. During the course of their studies, students note a deterioration in their health. The total annual number of days of disability increased from the 1st to the 5th year of study. Boys and girls reported a decrease in physical activity during their studies at university. The proportion of boys whose physical activity decreased over the course of six years of study was significantly higher than that of girls. At the same time, the proportion of boys whose body weight increased during their studies increased and was twice as high as among girls. In addition, the proportion of boys who smoke is about 25 % higher than among girls. The duration of work with gadgets and the duration of time spent outdoors among boys and girls was almost the same, although boys showed a tendency to increase the proportion of those who spend 9 or more hours at the gadget screen and more often play computer games.
Conclusions. Over the course of a six-year university education, the health level of students of both sexes declines. A common factor that equally deteriorates in boys and girls during the study period is a decrease in physical activity. The characteristic features of male students compared to female students is an increase in the proportion of those who have increased their body weight during their studies at university. There are more male students who smoke and work with gadgets for longer periods of time.
