Purpose: The goal is to substantiate the need for generalization and interpretation of scientific information regarding the choice of strategies for reforming obstetric care in Ukraine.
Materials and Methods. To conduct a study of the historical aspects of the development of midwifery scientific schools, the used scientific publications were systematized and analyzed with the analysis of historical articles, monographs, dissertations, archival materials of medical universities, scientific institutions, medical institutions and other scientific publications on midwifery and medical history, which became the basis for obtaining substantiated data
Results. The study of the historical aspects of midwifery revealed that this branch of medicine in Ukraine and the world has a centuries-old history that should influence its development and the establishment of midwifery scientific schools. Already in ancient civilizations there was knowledge about obstetric care during childbirth. The systematization and dissemination of knowledge about midwifery, the development of midwifery manuals took place mainly during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Already in the 20th century, research and educational activities in the field of obstetrics and gynecology intensified, which led to the formation of various scientific schools.
The analysis of historical aspects of obstetrics indicates that the development of scientific schools in the field of obstetrics was strongly connected with the achievements of previous generations of doctors. Traditions, methods and experience of the past centuries influenced the determination of directions and features of research in the respective schools.
Conclusions. The results of the study showed that methods and tools that reflected scientific, sociocultural and medical changes in midwifery developed throughout history.
Juxtaposing them with modern approaches allows us to understand the progress and challenges faced by previous generations of physicians.
Summarizing the conclusions, it can be argued that the historical aspects of midwifery are an important basis for the formation and development of scientific schools. The development of obstetrics is an important factor in improving the quality of medical care for women and newborns, and, accordingly, in improving public health.
