Purpose: to show the history of tuberculosis as an ancient insidious disease and repeated mistakes made in the fight against this disease.
Materials and Methods. Based on literary data, the history of tuberculosis, scientific discoveries regarding the detection and treatment of this disease, mistakes made in the fight against this disease, as well as own research and observations are presented. The bibliosemantic method and system analysis were used.
Results. The epidemiology of tuberculosis is quite complex and peculiar, the clinical signs of the disease are diverse and uncertain, since there are no pathognomonic symptoms. In recent years, clinical pathomorphism has been observed, the epidemiology of the disease is changing significantly under the influence of dynamic social phenomena, the species structure of tuberculosis pathogens and the course of the disease are changing. In the process of significant improvement in the situation with TB, there has been a false relaxation of vigilance regarding this disease, which has led to the unfounded false opinion that all scientific and practical questions regarding tuberculosis have been resolved. Many anti-TB hospitals, the bed fund, and the infrastructure of the anti-TB service were excessively reduced. During the period of health care reform in Ukraine, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and the COVID-19 pandemic, the fight against TB has deteriorated significantly, despite the use of best global experience, which should be implemented thoughtfully, and adequately approach the reorganization of the anti-TB service with its improvement. But at the same time, we should not neglect the realities of our life in general.
Conclusion. The history of tuberculosis, as an ancient insidious disease, successes and gross mistakes in the fight against it, in particular, during the reorganization of the anti-tuberculosis service in recent years, is given.
