Abstract

Purpose: to investigate a person’s lifestyle and its impact on health.

Materials and Methods. Object of the research is permanent residents of Zhytomyr region. A medical and sociological study was conducted in 2020–2021 among 250 recipients of Zhytomyr region of different age and gender groups.

A set of methods was used in the research process, namely: bibliosemantic, systematic analysis and logical generalization, medical-sociological (questionnaire), mathematical statistics, medical-statistical.

Results. As a result of the conducted medical and sociological research, it was revealed that the issue of compliance with the HLS (healthy lifestyle) is relevant from the point of view of preserving public health.

It has been proven that non-infectious diseases, which develop because of non-compliance with healthy lifestyles, can be avoided by transforming one’s own behavior. At the same time, according to the results of the study, only 14 % of the respondents adhere to the principles of health care.

Low physical activity, unsatisfactory living and working conditions, irrational and unbalanced nutrition, 46 % of respondents indicated that they do not live a full enough life from the point of view of physical, psychological, social, and material well-being.

75 % of respondents have a history of chronic diseases and health complaints, mostly in middle-aged and elderly people. 73 % confirmed seeking medical help during the year, which indicates the presence of health problems.

It was established that for most respondents (86 %), the principles of health care and its social value remain secondary, that is, a significant part of the population is not ready to take responsibility for their own health.

Conclusion. Summarizing the results of the study of the way of life among the residents of the region, it can be stated that in many cases there are predictors of the deterioration of health and the development of diseases, and, therefore, the question of the formation of values and the systematic promotion of healthy living among all age categories of the population remains relevant.
