Purpose: to investigate the self-assessment of the distance learning influence on the general state of health of university students during strict quarantine restrictions in the conditions of the COVID-19.
Materials and Methods. The method of special sociological research, the structural-functional and the system analysis and epidemiological methods were used in the study. The online questionnaire “Internet involvement” with the help of the Google Forms service was used in the sociological research as well. The target group of the study is full-time students of the Uzhhorod National University.
Results. 523 completed by respondents questionnaires were received, among whom the overwhelming majority were made by women (353 people, which made up 67.5 % of respondents). Students of all courses took part in the research. 328 respondents (62.7±2.1 %) believe that they do not feel any negative impact on their health during distance learning, 195 people (37.3±4.5 % of respondents) indicated that they feel some negative influence though. Among those respondents who pointed out the negative impact of distance learning on their own health are those with a higher level of involvement in daily Internet use (7 or more hours a day) – 45.1±3.3 % of respondents of this group. The application of the definition of the odds ratio (OR) in the study groups showed that the deterioration of health during distance learning, noted by the respondents, may be related to the influence of the above mentioned factor and its role is significant (AF43.8 – 44.4 %).
Conclusions. Although the vast majority of university students do not mark that distance learning during periods of quarantine restrictions has a negative effect on their health, among those respondents who noticed a negative impact from distance learning are those whose level of involvement in daily usage of the Internet was much higher (7 or more hours a day). Deterioration of health during distance learning, pointed out by respondents, may be related to the influence of the specified factors, and the role of these factors is significant.
