Purpose: to estimate the prevalence of severe forms of generalized periodontitis in the population of Ukraine, using official statistics.
Materials and Methods. The data of the directories “Indicators of public health and use of health resources in Ukraine (general)” for 2020 and 2019, data on the number of removed teeth due to periodontal disease were analyzed.
Results. During 2019, 753,429 tooth extractions for periodontal diseases were performed in the system of health care institutions reported to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, which was 17.13 % of the total number of tooth extractions. This indicator can be considered identical to the prevalence of cases of complicated periodontal disease in the country. In 2020, a total of 436,119 tooth extractions for periodontal diseases were performed in health care facilities that reported to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, while the share of dental extractions in the population decreased to 6.79 % and decreased slightly. the share of tooth extraction for periodontal disease in the structure of extractions up to 15.44 %. The proportion of tooth extractions for periodontal disease in the population is 2.19 %, which is identical to the prevalence of severe forms of generalized periodontitis, the frequency of registration of severe forms of generalized periodontitis at the dentist is 11.06 % of primary visits.
Conclusions. Analysis of the number of tooth extractions for periodontal disease in two years suggests that the incidence of inflammatory and inflammatory-dystrophic periodontal lesions has not changed significantly, although this issue requires longer observations.
