Abstract

Purpose: to optimize the provision of medical care considering gender aspects on the basis of studying the features of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.

Materials and Methods. Bibliosemantic and analytical methods were used to in-depth study of gender characteristics of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.

Results. It is believed that cardiovascular disease mainly affects men, and for women the main threat is cancer. Actually, heart disease affects women more and is much more common than all forms of cancer combined. And this is a fact that today, unfortunately, is unknown to the general public. In the overall structure of mortality, almost half of all deaths are cardiovascular diseases, of which 49 % – in women and 40 % – in men. The common belief that women have less risk factors for developing this pathology is also wrong. The results of many studies have shown that risk factors in women and men have many gender characteristics and differences that must be considered in the diagnostics and treatment of cardiovascular pathology by general practitioners and cardiologists. It is known that most patients of both sexes with risk factors lead an unhealthy lifestyle, don`t reach the target values of blood pressure, lipid and glycemic profiles, which affects the duration and quality of life.

Conclusions. As part of the general strategy to combat the mortality of the population, in particular the working age, from diseases of the circulatory system, a special strategy to combat overall mortality from this cause should be developed and it should become a priority.
