Abstract

Puropse: to study the quality of life in patients with diabetes mellitus with diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) using the international questionnaire EuroQol to assess quality of life.

Materials and Methods. 95 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and DPN were examined. Patients were divided into 3 groups: group 1 received protocol treatment, group 2 received procedures with polarizing light in addition to protocol treatment, group 3 – the standard treatment additionally included dosed therapeutic walking and polarizing light. The EQ-5D-3L questionnaire was used to assess quality of life.

Results. In all groups, the dynamics of treatment was positive after inpatient treatment, but probably less discomfort in normal daily activities and pain was found in patients who, in addition to standard treatment, were prescribed polarizing light and dosed therapeutic walking. Also, the additional inclusion of these methods in the treatment program contributed to a longer-lasting clinical effect.

Conclusions. The use of inpatient therapeutic dosed walking and polarizing light in addition to standard therapy is likely to be more effective on quality of life compared to protocol medication regimens. It is necessary to continue the regularly use of therapeutic dosed walking to maintain the result for a long time.
