Abstract

Purpose: analysis of the spread of tobacco consumption among the young population of Lviv region.

Materials and Methods. The results of sociological selective anonymous questioning among young people (n=410, aged 18–44) in Lviv region as to the prevalence of tobacco goods’ use and popularity of modern methods of smoking are presented.

Results. In the course of research it was clarified that along with the appearance of modern systems of tobacco heating, the number of supporters of traditional cigarettes among young people in Lviv region, doesn’t decrease. On the contrary, the IQOS and Glo smokers acceded to them. It was determined that every third young individual in Lviv region (34.39±2.35 %) uses the tobacco products. In Ukraine, the devices for tobacco heating have firstly appeared on sale in 2016 (IQOS), 2018 (Glo), while а number of persons who use them, grows constantly. We determined that (11.71±1.59) % of IQOS and Glo, out of all respondents use tobacco goods for heating, for all this, among them (47.92±2.47) % use them every day. It was also defined that the prevalence of alternative methods of tobacco goods’ use among young women increases considerably.

The research showed, that (72.92±2.19) % of respondents indicate the main cause when they start using these goods as a method of replacing the traditional cigarettes. The other respondents tried perceiving them as a pasttime (game). Taking into account the interest of young people to these goods (its production is being constantly improved – it concerns the renewal (renovation) of design, sizes, forms as well the conveniences of use – the work duration without recharging a battery, etc.) Among those who were interviewed, (6.25±1.20) % persons who use these devices do not fully aware the risks for their health. Smokers of traditional cigarettes (1.85±0.67 %) who were interviewed, understand but partly the affect of smoking on their bodies.

Conclusions. This work gives reasons for the need of scientifically-grounded work-out of  prevention system of modern methods of tobacco products use among the young people and introduction of control rules and regulations as to tobacco and new devices for smoking on legaslative level.
