Abstract

Purpose: identification of the presence and degree of influence of negative factors on the possibility of stress development in students of higher education institutions.

Materials and Methods. The research was conducted among students of O. Bohomolets National Medical University (NMU), National University “Lviv Polytechnic” and Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv University. A one-step (transverse) randomized research was performed.  240 students of III–IV study years of O. O. Bohomolets NMU were interviewed and 136 answers were received online from students from the first to the fifth years of other universities of Ukraine. In the course of a one-time (transverse) research, the survey covered 240 students of III–IV study years of O. O. Bohomolets NMU and the e-questionnaire collected the answers of 136 students of I–V study years of other universities of Ukraine.

Results. The analysis of the obtained data showed that due to learning difficulties 42 % of the surveyed students constantly feel depressed, periodically this feeling appears in 33 % of respondents, more often during exams, final module tests (FMT), term exams – in 21 % of those who took part in the poll. Students did not mention the negative impact of professors on this process. Only less than one percent of respondents surveyed by e-questionnaire indicated that feelings of depression were associated with humiliation conducted by the professors. It was found that 25 % of respondents are forced to combine studies and work, while experiencing fatigue. Moreover, 12 % of students indicated that they feel chronic fatigue. At the same time, 13 % of respondents indicated that they entered a higher education institution because of their parents’ wishes or the need to obtain a diploma, which may be a probable cause of discomfort. 43 % of the surveyed students stated their unwillingness to study and the feeling of constant fatigue. 35 % of respondents wanted to drop out of school and do something else.

Conclusions. The results of the study indicate a significant prevalence of negative factors in the development of stress in the student environment, which indicates the need to develop training programs to increase stress resistance and psychological support for the entire period of study and in the pre-examination period, in particular.
