Purpose: to investigate the problem of endometriosis in modern scientific literature.
Materials and Methods. 38 scientific literature sources were analyzed, 30 of which were foreign. For this, the bibliosemantic method was used.
Results. The true incidence of endometriosis is difficult to determine, since a definitive diagnosis is made only by laparoscopy or laparotomy with histological findings. Undoubtedly, it is impossible to eliminate the anatomical substrate of endometriosis by any method other than surgery. Conservative treatment reduces the symptoms of the disease and improves the function of the reproductive system over a period of time. However, even surgical treatment is not always appropriate as it carries the risk of relapse. In most cases, it adversely affects the status of the ovarian reserve, impairing the quality of ovogenesis. For today, the main task for scientists is still to find application points between pathogenesis links and possible targeted therapy that would be optimal for the patient in the absence of side effects, the absence of disease relapse and the possibility of obtaining the desired pregnancy.
Conclusions. Statistical data, theories of pathogenesis of endometriosis, methods of diagnostics and analysis of the effectiveness of different methods of treatment of endometriosis are presented. Undoubtedly, despite the vast amount of literature available today, there is no single protocol, International Guideline, which outlines single algorithm for endometriosis diagnosis and treatment. Experts emphasize only an individual approach with a comprehensive solution to the problem of woman’s age, localization and extent of the process, the severity of symptoms, fertility status and the need to restore reproductive function, the presence of concomitant gynecological and somatic pathology, the effectiveness of previously conducted treatment. In the modern domestic and foreign literature, endometriosis remains a debatable issue and requires new approaches to study and solve this problem.
