Purpose: to study the epidemiology of cerebrovascular diseases among adult residents of Kyiv city.
Materials and Methods. The statistical method and the method of systematic approach were applied in the course of study. The data of sectoral statistical reports in Kyiv for the years 2014, 2017 and 2018 were used as the materials of the research.
Results. The tendency to decrease of the indicators of the registered incidence of cerebrovascular diseases and cerebral stroke among adult population in Kyiv, as well as prevalence of this pathology among the adult residents of the city, was determined. In 2018 the level of these indicators in Kyiv remained high. Thus, the level of cerebrovascular diseases morbidity among adult population reached 68.25 per 10 000 of adult residents, incidence of transitorial ischemic strokes and similar syndromes composed 2.68, incidence of all forms of cerebral strokes – 14.39. At the same time, the cerebral strokes which developed on the background of arterial hypertension make 73.94 % of the total number of registered cerebral strokes. Only 76.25 % of people who underwent cerebral strokes were under dispensary observation with fluctuations from 48.21 % in Holosiivskyi to 98.57 % in Pecherskyi district. This means that 23.75 % of people who underwent cerebral stroke do not receive proper medical support and, consequently, are at risk for a high degree of repeated stroke. The number of persons who became disabled due to cerebrovascular disease ranges 1236–1309 annually, of which in 2018 57.45 % were the residents of working age. The mortality rate of the population because of the reason named before increased by 1.18 and amounted to 116.07 per 100 thousand of adult population.
The difference in the indicators of cerebrovascular disease morbidity among adult population and the prevalence of this disease in administrative territories of the city can be explained by different level of population’s administration for medical help and different age characteristics of the residents of different areas of the city.
Conclusions. The results of the study indicate the need to adopt a target program of struggle against cerebrovascular diseases in Kyiv and to conduct a target clinical screening of the adult population.
