Summary. Sleep, like nutrition and physical activity, is the most important factor in determining health and well-being.
The aim of the study – to analyze recent research on sleep disorders.
Materials and Methods. Available literature sources on the problem of sleep disorders on the Internet are analyzed.
Results. Recent studies suggest that adults with the best sleep patterns had a lower risk of heart failure. A genetic mutation alters (prolongs) the timing of the biological clock, causing a general sleep disturbance syndrome called the slow phase disorder, the deep sleep stage. Genetic variations that alter the clock proteins can change the clock time and disrupt the sleep phase. The ideal balance of activities for a child aged 11–13 years for 24 hours for maximum health and development includes: 1.5 hours of moderate and vigorous exercise; 3.4 hours of light exercise; 8.2 hours of sitting time; 10.9 hours of sleep. A study by Das et al. found that COVID-19 caused an increase in sleep duration.
Conclusions. The study of sleep disorders is an urgent task of medical professionals of various specialties, as sleep disorders are observed in 30–45 % of the adult population, for half of them insomnia is a significant clinical problem.
