Abstract

Summary. Tuberculosis is a global health problem as one of the top 10 causes of death in the world. According to the WHO, Ukraine is one of the 27 countries in the world, which accounts for 85 % of tuberculosis, and ranks 4th in the world in its prevalence. The peculiarities of the epidemic situation with tuberculosis have exacerbated and made socially significant the problem of tuberculosis in health care workers.

The aim of the study – to conduct a comparative analysis of the incidence of tuberculosis in the general population and employees of health care facilities in Ukraine and Dnipropetrovsk region.

Materials and Methods. Materials for the study of the epidemic process were state statistical reporting: analytical and statistical directories "Tuberculosis in Ukraine" of the State Institution "Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine" and the State Institution "Center for Medical Statistics of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine" for 2019 and 2020 and reporting forms 8 and 33.

Results. It is established that despite the decrease in morbidity and mortality from tuberculosis over the analyzed five-year period (2015–2019) in Ukraine, the epidemiological situation in Dnipropetrovsk region remains acute, especially in terms of tuberculosis/HIV incidence (24 per 100 000 of population in 2019 – second place in Ukraine) and cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (787 in 2019 – first place in Ukraine). The incidence of tuberculosis in employees of health care facilities, both anti-tuberculosis and general treatment network in the Dnipropetrovsk region exceeds similar data in Ukraine. Analysis of the incidence of tuberculosis by employees of anti-tuberculosis institutions in Dnipropetrovsk region showed that the highest average incidence per 100 000 of population was observed among nurses 506.8.

Conclusions. The incidence of tuberculosis among employees of health care facilities, both anti-tuberculosis and general treatment network in Dnipropetrovsk region exceeds similar data in Ukraine. The highest incidence of tuberculosis among medical workers of Dnipropetrovsk region is observed among nurses. This requires strict adherence to the principles of infection control and optimization of approaches to the detection, treatment and prevention of tuberculosis in healthcare professionals.
