Abstract

Objective. The objective of this study is to summarise the current evidence on the pharmacological properties, clinical efficacy and safety of vitamins and their coenzyme forms, and to determine the principles of their rational use.

Materials and methods. A review was conducted of publications indexed in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar, as well as of clinical guidelines and documents from international professional organisations. Publications from 2015 to 2026 were analysed predominantly. Literature searching and selection were performed in accordance with the main PRISMA principles, adapted to the review study design. The data were systematised using qualitative analysis.

Results and discussion. The current evidence on the effects and clinical use of water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins, as well as their coenzyme forms, was summarised. The use of specific and non-specific vitamin therapy in the comprehensive treatment of diseases and intoxications was considered, as were the risks associated with high-dose therapy, hypervitaminosis and drug interactions.

Conclusions. The rational utilisation of vitamin and coenzyme preparations necessitates evidence-based indications, individualised patient assessment, appropriate dosing, and consideration of potential risks.
