Abstract

Objective. The objective is to conduct technological and consumer studies of the developed antiperspirant stick intended for the management of hyperhidrosis.

Materials and methods. Six experimental batches of the prepared antiperspirant stick were investigated. The formulations of the experimental batches contained solid waxes, solid oils, potassium alum, and tannin. The organoleptic, physicochemical, and consumer characteristics of the antiperspirant samples were evaluated using a specially developed questionnaire. The study was conducted in accordance with the State Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine and the requirements of the Technical Regulation on Cosmetic Products.

Results and discussion. The study involved evaluating how combinations of excipients influence the technological and consumer properties of the resulting antiperspirants. All samples were homogeneous and light brown or yellowish in colour, with a lavender fragrance. While several samples were relatively hard and difficult to apply, most had a pleasant texture and were readily applied. Thermal stability testing showed that five of the samples remained stable and that all of the samples had satisfactory pH values. Following the technological studies, the five best-performing batches were selected for evaluation of consumer properties. Of these, two antiperspirant batches were identified as the most favourable formulations.

Conclusions. Technological and consumer studies substantiated the composition and manufacturing technology of the medicinal cosmetic product, and assessed the influence of excipients on the properties of the investigated solid antiperspirants. The six batches contained the following active ingredients and excipients: beeswax, coconut oil, cocoa butter, potassium alum, tannin, lanolin and purified water. Five antiperspirant batches demonstrated satisfactory technological properties and were selected for evaluation of their consumer characteristics. According to the results of the questionnaire, batches No. 2 and No. 3 were identified as the leading formulations. Batch No. 2 contained 25% beeswax, 15% coconut oil and 10% cocoa butter, while batch No. 3 contained 20% beeswax, 15% coconut oil and 15% cocoa butter.
