Objective. To conduct a comparative analysis of the assortment of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic drugs (NSAIDs) from the group of propionic acid derivatives registered on the pharmaceutical markets of Ukraine, the USA, and Poland, to identify the features of the assortment structure and the main differences between the studied markets.
Materials and methods. The analysis of the assortment of medicinal products presented on the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine was carried out based on the data of the “State Register of Medicinal Products of Ukraine”. The information from specialized online reference sources was used to conduct comparative studies of the assortment of this group of medicinal products in the pharmaceutical markets of Poland and the USA. The study employed content analysis, comparative analysis, systematization, and data generalization methods.
Results and discussion. It was established that as of October 2025, the widest assortment of NSAIDs from the group of propionic acid derivatives was represented on the pharmaceutical market of the USA with 518 trade names (TNs), while 230 TNs were registered in Ukraine and 166 TNs in Poland. Mono-component products and ibuprofen-based medicinal products predominated in all studied countries (92.61% of the assortment in Ukraine, 86.14% in Poland, and 79.34% in the USA). The share of ibuprofen products accounted for 54.35% in Ukraine, 58.43% in Poland, and 54.71% in the USA. In Ukraine, dexketoprofen products ranked second in representation, whereas naproxen products occupied this position in Poland and the USA. The assortment of combined medicinal products was characterized by the predominance of ibuprofen combinations with other active pharmaceutical ingredients. All studied markets were dominated by solid dosage forms for oral administration, primarily tablets. At the same time, the pharmaceutical markets of Ukraine and Poland demonstrated a greater diversity of dosage forms compared to the USA. The analysis of manufacturing countries showed that domestically produced medicinal products prevailed in Poland and the USA, whereas the Ukrainian market was characterized by a significant share of imported products.
Conclusions. The conducted analysis revealed significant differences in the assortment structure of NSAIDs belonging to the propionic acid derivatives group on the pharmaceutical markets of Ukraine, Poland, and the USA according to international nonproprietary names, dosage forms and manufacturing countries. The obtained results indicate a high level of pharmaceutical self-sufficiency in Poland and the USA, as well as the need for further development of domestic NSAID production in Ukraine.
