The aim is to study the influence of pharmaceutical factors, namely excipients, on the technological properties of granules containing couch grass herb phytosubstance and to select the most appropriate ones for further research.
Materials and methods. The object of the study was granules based on couch grass herb phytosubstance and 9 excipients grouped into 3 categories of pharmaceutical factors used in the experiment. The influence of excipients on the pharmacotechnological properties of granules based on couch grass herb phytosubstance was investigated using the method of mathematical experimental design. The granules were prepared by wet granulation.
Results and discussion. The influence of excipients on the pharmacotechnological properties of granules based on a phytosubstance derived from couch grass herb was analyzed. Ranked preference series were constructed to assess the positive effects of nine excipients on the following quality attributes: loss on drying, bulk volume before and after tapping, flowability, disintegration, and friability of the granules, as well as on the integrated response parameter, namely the desirability function.
Conclusions. Following the obtained results, the selection of excipients that exerted the most favorable effect on the pharmaco-technological properties of the granules based on the phytosubstance derived from couch grass herb was scientifically substantiated for further studies. The selected excipients comprised microcrystalline cellulose 200 and lactose (1:1), pregelatinized starch, and Neusilin® US2.
