Objective. To develop the composition and manufacturing technology of a medicated cosmetic product in the form of a cream intended for the correction of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and to study its technological properties.
Materials and Methods. Various medicated cosmetic creams in the form of emulsions and emulgels were investigated. To obtain six series of emulgels, different gelling agents at various concentrations were used, while three series of emulsions were prepared with different percentages of the oil phase. Different extracts, vitamins, and lipid complexes were incorporated into the cream formulation. The studied samples were prepared using the hot emulsification method. The study was conducted in accordance with the State Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine. Results and Discussion. The study focused on selecting the composition and dosage form of the medicated cosmetic product. For this purpose, the influence of excipients, particularly the content of gelling agents and oils, on the technological properties of emulgel and emulsion creams was investigated. The following parameters were evaluated: organoleptic characteristics, homogeneity, pH, colloidal stability, thermal stability, and spreadability. The emulsion type was confirmed by the staining method.
Conclusions. The influence of excipients was studied in nine series of the investigated cream containing selected active ingredients and excipients. The formulation included vegetable oil, hydrophilic moisturizing agents, antioxidants, vitamins, whitening components, and plant extracts with depigmenting and sensitizing properties. These components may help address the problem of pigmented spots, reduce irritation, and moisturize and restore facial skin. Investigation of the cosmetic samples demonstrated that satisfactory technological properties were observed in two series of the medicated cosmetic product, namely: an emulsion sample containing 10% oil phase and an emulgel containing xanthan gum as the gelling agent at a concentration of 0.1%. Further studies of consumer characteristics are planned for these samples.
