Abstract

The aim of the work. To establish the presence of gender factors in the professional realization of future pharmaceutical specialists in the context of the pharmaceutical security of the state.

Materials and Methods. To achieve this goal, a pilot anonymous online survey was conducted. The primary data collection tool was a questionnaire created in Google Forms. The study materials comprised the responses of 145 respondents, including senior students of the Faculty of Pharmacy (full-time and part-time forms of study) and pharmacy interns of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University. Methods of information retrieval, systemic-analytical and logical analysis, and questionnaire surveys were employed.

Results and Discussion. It was found that the majority of participants (84.8%) studied or worked in a predominantly female environment. Equality in professional development opportunities was confirmed by 71.7% of those surveyed. While a significant proportion (61.4%) had not encountered gender discrimination, more than a fifth (21.4%) noted disparities in the treatment of different sexes within the pharmaceutical field. Specifically, a bias in hiring was reported (51.6%), affecting individuals of both sexes. Other identified signs of discrimination included unequal pay (16.1%), limited access to management positions (12.9%), sexual harassment (9.7%) and career growth restrictions (6.5%).

More than half of all respondents (54.5%) consider a mixed-gender team to be a priority for their future professional environment. At the same time, the gender of the supervisor is of no importance to the majority of respondents (71.7%).

Conclusions. The presence of gender factors in the professional realization of future pharmaceutical specialists has been established, which is manifested through horizontal and vertical asymmetry in the pharmaceutical environment. Such disparities are classified as potential risks to the pharmaceutical security of the state. The identified residual signs of segregation in the hiring of individuals of both sexes are primarily subjective. At the same time, the survey results indicate a gradual diminishing of gender stereotypes among future pharmacists.
