Abstract

The article investigates the didactic potential of Latin aphorisms as an effective means of professional training for students of medical universities. The relevance of using Latin aphorisms is demonstrated within the competence-based approach and the humanisation of contemporary medical education. The role of Latin aphorisms in the development of cultural, linguistic, terminological, and professional competences of future healthcare professionals is identified. It is shown that Latin aphorisms are not only an important resource for developing humanistic values, professional ethics, and critical thinking among students of higher education, but also an effective means of mastering grammatical structures and medical terminology. Particular attention is given to the methodological aspects of integrating aphorisms into Latin language teaching, in particular their use for practising grammatical structures, developing linguistic competence, and enhancing motivation for learning. An algorithm for organising independent work of higher education students is proposed. It involves a comprehensive analysis of aphorisms including grammatical, historical, cultural, and professional components. It is emphasised that this form of work promotes the development of self-education skills, information literacy, academic integrity, analytical abilities, and the application of acquired knowledge in future professional practice. It is concluded that the systematic use of Latin aphorisms in the educational process integrates language training with the development of professional and general cultural competences of future healthcare professionals, enhances motivation for learning Latin, and fosters humanistic values.
