Abstract

Introduction. Timely assessment of the dental status of young people is important for predicting and maintaining dental health. Periodontal diseases require special attention, the first manifestations of which often appear at a young age. Among the main factors of their development, an important place is occupied by poor oral hygiene, caries, orthodontic anomalies and the presence of factors that contribute to the accumulation of biofilm and inflammation of the gums. Young age (18–25 years) is a period of active behavioral and social changes that can affect the health of the oral cavity and periodontal tissues. Early identification of risk factors during this period is an important component of the prevention of further periodontal lesions. At the same time, regional features of the dental and periodontal status of young people in Western Ukraine remain insufficiently studied. This justifies the need to study risk factors and develop differentiated preventive measures among residents of the Ternopil region. The aim of the work is to determine the dental health indicators of patients aged 18–25 years – residents of Ternopil and Ternopil region for the scientific substantiation of the prognostic model of the development of inflammatory periodontal diseases and the introduction of new methods of prevention with a pronounced anti-inflammatory and trophic effect. Materials and methods of the study. Dental status was determined in patients aged 18–25 years without concomitant pathology and bad habits, who lived in Ternopil and the region for at least the second generation. Diagnosis was carried out according to the International Classification of Periodontal Diseases (2017). The index assessment of CPV, OHI-S by Green- Wermillion and RMA by C. Parma were used. The examinations were carried out in compliance with bioethical standards. Statistical processing was carried out using the Shapiro-Wilk and Mann-Whitney criteria. Research results and their discussion. In patients of the clinical observation group, compared with the control group, a higher intensity of caries, deterioration of the hygienic state of the oral cavity and the presence of gingivitis were detected. The most pronounced differences were observed in the indicators of C, CPV, OHI-S and PMA. The results obtained are consistent with the literature data on the dependence of the dental status of young people on the level of individual hygiene, motivation for prevention and timeliness of professional dental care. Conclusions. The results obtained justify the need to improve preventive measures aimed primarily at improving individual oral hygiene and increasing the motivation of young people to maintain dental health.
