Abstract

Objective. To perform a comparative biomechanical evaluation of NeO and ATID dental implant designs using finite element analysis and to determine the implant design providing the most favorable distribution of functional loading in cortical and cancellous bone. Materials and methods. A three-dimensional finite element model of a mandibular segment was reconstructed from computed tomography data. Two AlphaBio (Israel) dental implant designs, NeO and ATID, were analyzed. Equivalent von Mises stress distribution in cortical and cancellous bone was evaluated under vertical and horizontal loading ranging from 60 to 420 N, including physiological masticatory loading of 300 N. Results. Under a vertical load of 300 N, the NeO implant demonstrated lower maximum equivalent stresses than the ATID implant. In cortical bone, the maximum stress reached 16.5 MPa, which was 29.2% lower than that observed for the ATID implant. In cancellous bone, the maximum stress decreased to 2.2 MPa, representing a 64.5% reduction compared with the ATID design. A linear relationship was observed between the applied load and the equivalent von Mises stress. The NeO implant exhibited a more uniform stress distribution and lower stress concentration within the periimplant bone. Conclusions. Finite element analysis is an effective method for the biomechanical evaluation of dental implant systems. The NeO implant design provides a more favorable stress distribution than the ATID design, creating improved conditions for primary stability and osseointegration. These findings support the clinical use of the NeO implant, particularly in patients with reduced bone mineral density.
