Abstract

Periodontal diseases are among the leading causes of tooth loss and are closely associated with inflammatory processes and oxidative stress. The reactivity of the organism plays a crucial role in determining the intensity and course of pathological processes, including lipid peroxidation.
The aim of the study was to investigate the activity of lipid peroxidation in rats with periodontitis under altered body reactivity.
Materials and Methods. The study was performed on 50 white non-linear rats (180–200 g), divided into three groups: rats with hypoergic reactivity (n = 20), hyperergic reactivity (n = 20), and a control group with normergic reactivity (n = 10). Hypoergic reactivity was induced by intramuscular administration of cyclophosphamide (10 mg/kg) for 7 days, while hyperergic reactivity was induced by Salmonella enterica lipopolysaccharide (LPS), 100 mg/kg for 7 days on the background of experimental periodontitis. Blood samples were collected on days 1 and 7. The levels of diene conjugates (DC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were determined spectrophotometrically.
Results and Discussion. After 1 day, rats with hyperergic reactivity showed significantly higher levels of MDA and DC compared to normergic and hypoergic groups. After 7 days, the highest levels of lipid peroxidation products were observed in rats with hypoergic reactivity. These findings indicate early activation of oxidative stress in hyperergic conditions and delayed but prolonged oxidative damage in hypoergic conditions.
Conclusions. Altered body reactivity significantly affects the intensity and dynamics of lipid peroxidation. Hyperergic reactivity is associated with rapid and pronounced oxidative damage, whereas hypoergic reactivity leads to delayed but sustained activation of lipid peroxidation processes. These results highlight the importance of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of periodontal tissue damage.
