Abstract

The aim of the work is to analyze the features of diagnostics and management of military personnel with tuberculosis who were treated in hospital.

Materials and methods. A retrospective analysis of the medical records of 57 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis of military personnel, all males, who underwent inpatient treatment at the Ternopil Regional Phthisiopulmonological Medical Center was carried out.

Research results. The analysis found that new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis were in 48 (84.2 %), recurrent cases – in 9 (15.8 %) patients. When analyzing the ways of detecting tuberculosis in patients, most of them were diagnosed due to complaints (57.9 %), during a preventive examination tuberculosis was detected in 17.5 %, during the provision of care after an injury – in 15.8 %. It was found that in 15 out of 48 (in 31.3 %) of the newly diagnosed patients, old residual changes after pulmonary TB were observed on the X-rays (fibrosis, pneumocirrhosis, dense foci, tuberculomas). Destruction of lung tissue was diagnosed in 31 (55.4 %) patients, and mycobacteria of tuberculosis were detected in sputum in 42 patients (75.0 %). Complications of pulmonary tuberculosis were observed in 23 (40.3 %) patients. Concomitant diseases were noted in 37 (64.9 %) patients. After discharge from the hospital, the patients continued treatment in outpatient settings.

Conclusions. In order to timely diagnose pulmonary tuberculosis in military personnel, doctors of all specialties should carefully collect anamnesis, take into account previous diseases, stressful situations, injuries. Patients should be promptly referred for X-ray examination and sputum examination for the presence of tuberculosis mycobacteria.
