Abstract

The rapid development of transplantology contributes to the progress of many medical and biological sciences, without which it is impossible to successfully transplant cells, tissues, and organs. Among the potential risks inherent in transplantation, the likelihood of infectious or parasitic diseases due to the use of contaminated transplants remains a reality, which requires the organization of careful monitoring of the transplant’s safety. Additional risks are the potential threats to the spread of infectious agents of health-care associated infections, including those resistant to antimicrobial drugs, as well as the reactivation of endogenous infections in patients on the background of immunosuppressive therapy.

Improvements in laboratory diagnostic methods and using them in research of transplantants have significantly improved the detection of a wide range of potential pathogenic and opportunistic biological agents: prions, viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, which cause infectious complications in recipients. Organization of algorithms of obligatory medical examinations of donors significantly reduces the likelihood of using contaminated substances in these medical interventions.

The introduction of infection control standards, new methods of decontamination and control of hospital environment objects contribute to reducing the risks of exogenous infection of patients of health-care associated infections.
