Purpose: to conduct a comprehensive study of the functioning, transformations, and role of medical institutions in the Dnipro region during World War II (1939-1945), their contribution to saving human lives, and to analyze the impact of the occupation regime, evacuation processes, and postwar reconstruction on the region’s medical infra- structure. Materials and Methods. Historical materials, including monographs, journal articles, official decrees, laws, digitized archives, reference materials, and government reports were used in the study. We employed descriptive, bibliosemantic, and historical methods of data analysis. Results. A systematic analysis has revealed a number of historical patterns in the operations of medical institu- tions in the Dnipropetrovsk region during World War II. The region’s overall healthcare system was organizationally unprepared for the scale and speed of the German offensive in 1941. At the same time, local institutions demon- strated a high degree of autonomous adaptability. Thanks to a combination of evacuation measures, partisan resis- tance, and the personal heroism of doctors and medical staff, it was possible to ensure the continuous operation of medical services throughout the war. Conclusions. The healthcare system in the Dnipro region proved to be organizationally unprepared for the scale and speed of the German offensive. However, despite the lack of centralized preparedness for military action, it demonstrated a high degree of autonomous adaptability: thanks to evacuations, partisan resistance, and the personal heroism of medical personnel, the uninterrupted functioning of medical services was ensured. This experi- ence vividly demonstrated the importance of combining organizational flexibility, professional resilience, and human courage under extreme conditions, which became a significant contribution to both the victory and postwar recon- struction.
